The Hemmel

A recently converted barn which feels bright, sunny and modern with its large open plan living-kitchen area but retains its traditional features and is very warm and comfortable. It has a log burning stove and underfloor heating. It lies on one level (2 steps up to bathroom /bedroom area) with patio doors leading out to a private garden with large patio. Views from patio to the north and east – perfect for morning coffee and evening barbecues. Another set of patio doors lead to a shared, south facing, sunny courtyard.

The hemmel adjoins another cottage (currently occupied by Kate, the holiday cottage owner) with whom it shares a grassed courtyard garden, but it is easy to forget there is anybody else around!

The cottage comfortably sleeps 4 in two bedrooms with the larger master featuring an excellent quality, firm, kingsize bed. The second bedroom has a zip and link bed that can be used as a kingsize or twins. Both are tastefully decorated and have roof lights – a bonus for night time for stargazing!

Living Area / Kitchen

The open plan kitchen/living area features a well equipped, modern kitchen with plenty of storage space and Belfast sink with views to make the washing-up easier (there is also a dishwasher). There is a large sofa and separate chair and bookshelves with plenty of local leaflets and maps and guides as well as games and novels. The log burning stove pumps out heat during winter months and there is wifi and freesat tv channels on the wall-mounted tv. Access to shared laundry room.

There is a large, luxurious bathroom with walk-in shower

Entrance / Hallway

Sunroom/entrance hallway which can be used to store boots and coats or enjoy the warmth of the sun

Pet Friendly

The Hemmel happily accepts 2 well-behaved dogs for which there is no extra charge but we ask that you leave the cottage spotlessly clean and hoovered – as found on arrival.

There is a large securely fenced garden and dogs love the underfloor heating as much as their owners! There is a stair gate that can be set up to keep dogs in the entrance hallway/sunroom area to dry off before allowing them into the main living area. The floors are either tiled or laminated hence easily cleaned.

Pet Etiquette

We ask you to bring pet beds (or crates, if they are young and known chewers!) and please do not to allow them on the furniture in the bedrooms or let them loose in the shared courtyard. It would be a good idea to bring rugs for the sofas if you have a hairy breed of dog! Please make sure all your dogs poop has been scooped.

Old Town is a working farm so dogs must not be left unattended in the garden, even though it is securely fenced, and should be kept on a lead at all times while walking on the farm trails. Please note between mid march and mid-may there is no access to farm fields due to lambing but there are plenty of nearby walks. Unless on request, and if kept in a crate, then dogs must NEVER be left unattended in the house.
